the end of my tech liberation

Greetings!

I (obviously) just got the internet hooked-up at the new house. Well, sorta. I have the router configured and my devices can connect to the wireless network. Or I can plug the ethernet cable directly from the modem into the port in my computer and surf. But, I cannot connect to the internet via the wireless. I have worked on it...a lot. I'm frustrated by it, and by the fact that customer support is available until 5pm weekdays only.

However, not having the internet has been exceptionally liberating!!! Not that I am supper connected anyway...I'm not on instagram/vine/whatever, I don't use faceballs. I do text and talk, but not often.

A few highlights since I've been disconnected:

1. Bro is out of prison!! Lucky little bastard only served four months of his 5 year sentence. He is on parole, though, and has to check in with a parole officer regularly. I have not seen him, yet. My parents picked him in Fulton just this morning. I did speak to my mom, and she said he was a changed person. Very respectful, "yes, sir" etc. His hair is buzzed. He has gained weight. She also told me that the thing he talked about the most/was most upset about was that when he was at workhouse, they took his wallet and it is now lost. He thought he lost the season pass to Six Flags that I got for him last summer. BUT I HAVE THE PASS!! I had hung onto it after I got it for him last year because I didn't trust him to not lose it! So, I will surprise him with it tomorrow when we see each other. This is funny to me, or at least makes me smile, because when he was sentenced back in February, I was upset that I had bought him that pass and now he/we wouldn't be able to go this year! HAHAHA!! From the same cloth...

2. Speaking of from the same cloth. Jonathan helped me move the large furniture items a few weeks ago. We got the first load (mattress/box springs, couch, and dresser onto the truck and to the new house without incident, but it took fucking forever. When we returned for the second load, my dad was home from work and helped. My dad and I don't even need to communicate verbally when we move furniture because we have moved it so much together. Plus, I have known my dad for 32 years and we just know how each other operates. So it went more smoothly with him. and I think Jonathan felt a little put-out.

3. I am overwhelmed by the amount of cords, etc from the computer, tv, receiver, speakers, roku, modem, and router.

4. On Thursday, I decided to forgo working out and instead went to the one store in town where I can buy my favorite falafel mix. As I was leaving, I was nearly taken out in the parking lot by a young male (probably around age 12-13), riding a bike (no helmet but flip-slops) and speeding/weaving in and out of parked cars. I was about to vocalize the he should look out/he was going to get hurt when he t-boned a car adn the women ran over him with her back wheels. This was definitely NOT the driver's fault. The lik crashed into the side of a moving car because he was being a fucking idiot. I said this to him. I was unable to stick around but spoke with the driver and we traded cell numbers/info since I was a witness to the incident. I've been thinking about what I saw pretty much constantly since it happened, and I'm mostly pretty pissed about it. I would have zero sympathy (except for the driver) if this kid had been killed. He is a fucking idiot, and well, we need more Darwinian Justice in these times.

5. New house has been great! I do feel safe here. It is funny to me, because this house it TINY! Only 670 square feet and no basement. At first, when I was looking at it and had a contract on it, I was kinda on the fence about the small size. Like maybe it was too small. But now that I'm here and so is all my stuff, I feel like it's still even more space than I need. I decided to put my bed in the smaller of the bedrooms, and the larger room is the office/workout space.

6. There was a cricket in the house on Thursday! At night. When I was ready to go to sleep. It was chirping so loudly and it was behind the stove. I shimmied the stove away from the wall and was trying to flush him out. But no avail. When I woke up the next morning, I heard TWO crickets chirping from two different locations INSIDE the house! I tracked down both of them but was only able to get to one of them. I know crickets are supposed to be good luck, but they are a nuisance when I am trying to sleep! Goodness gracious me!

All said and done, I am happy right now.
