Another bender comes to an end. I have had five consecutive days off. I just woke up from sleeping for 14 hours, and damn, does it feel good to not feel like I wanna die. My body is completely void of any stress or mental anguish that was there just five days ago.
Friday night was 'party of the century' at the cove, although every party hosted there is 'party of the century.' Out of town bands included NC&TBDB and Rational Anthem.
Haddonfields started things off, and their set was excellent as usual. All friends in attendance, knew all the words, and sang along. No one was too drunk to play.
Rational Anthem were excellent, had not seen them perform since D4th of July 2011. Big Time wanted me to hook up with the drummer (not happening!) since he was the tallest guy in the room and I was the tallest girl and third tallest person at the whole party! haha!
Jungle Fire played next. They are not my taste, but the living room was packed with friends watching the set.
Nato was excellent as usual. Travis was in the front, fired up and singing along, with a lamp shade on his head. Too bad he knocked up his total lamesauce girlfriend. Sam is single now, so he was in party mode, which is fucking sweet.
Chill Dawgs were last, everyone was wasted, I was not wasted enough. I could not watch. I sat in the kitchen eating Frito's and drinking Cherry Coke and talking with the merch guy from R/A. Bought the newest record. Super handy, especially since my iPOD is MIA for nearly a month now.
I left the party at about 230am and was glad to go home and pass out.
On Saturday, I kinda wanted to die. I was suuuuper dehydrated and hungry. Went on an everquest to get delicious/nutritious food. Everest Cafe was closed, found this out AFTER I put $1 in the parking meter. Went to get some soup at one of my favorite cafes, but they didn't have soup that day! Sam got at me about food, so I drove to the cove to pick him up and drove down to Cherokee for tortas (me) and linga tacos (him). He was going to go the fair with the guys, so I dropped him off back at the cove and I went home to take a nap.
On Saturday night, the show was at Firehouse in Normal. It was NC&TBDB, Chill Dawgs, Hospital Job, and Copyrights. A solid line-up all around. Sam asked if I wanted company on the drive up, and I said "Sure!" So he waited on the porch for me to come pick him up at the cove and everyone else left, maybe twenty minutes prior to when I arrived to pick him up. When he got in the car, he told me that he and Nato had made a bet about who could get there first. Nato failed to realize that I have Illinois tags, and he never had a chance of winning this bet!!! We initially started 20 minutes behind because I went to the bank and the gas station prior to picking up Sam, so we could leave right away!! We kept our eyes peeled for the van, never saw it, but we did beat them by 20 minutes!! We were toying with them, too. When were were on mile marker 75, we texted them asking what mile marker they were on and that we were forever leaving STL because I took so long to finally pick Sam up. Nato responded like ten minutes later that they were on 38!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Again, he failed to realize that I have Illinois tags! We even stopped at a rest stop to have a piss and change of clothes. When we rolled into Normal, we went to the liquor store to get smokes, then I took Sam's picture outside of the venue, and we texted it to Nato that he had lost! When the van finally arrived, Lars told me that he had seen me pass them, but we never saw the van!
Ok, so back to the show. Excellent line up, all the bands were solid. Dawgs were first, which was good because they weren't too drunk to play their instruments. It was still pretty bad, though. But it is also pretty bad enough that it is also super awesome. HoJo was next, and they were great. Lots of young Springfield fans out and singing along near the front. Nato was next and the set was excellent as expected. A LOT of people seemed to be there for them and singing along in the front. Nato is such a showman! Copyrights were last, and their set was also excellent and tight as expected, but not a lot of people were there. It was kinda way late, too. But I enjoyed the set and was down in the front singing along to all the songs, alongside Sam and Lars and others. After the show, everyone hung out at the bar for a bit. Sam was asking for shots, Zack was pouring shots, I was politely declining, because I had to drive the car! AND THANK GOD!
DUI check point!!! I was fine to drive, I had maybe 5 beers over the course of the whole evening and had stopped when the Copyrights started and also had some water. Plus, my passenger was BOMBED!!! In fact, the next morning, he did not even remember being stopped at the check point -or being issued a ticket for seat belt violation!! In fact, the next morning, Sam was so hungover that he didn't even want to drink water he was so nauseous. When we were kicked out of the hotel at 12:30pm, we went back to the venue and ended up going to a coffee shop across the street so I could get tofu scramble. Sam ordered a pancacke and two eggs (over easy. effing gross.). Coffee, milk, OJ, and two waters. He was able to hold it down, which was a miracle. I wasn't hungover in that I didn't feel sick, I was just exhausted and dehydrated. It was hot as balls outside, and there was a street-long art fair going on with vendors in tents. We walked around to check out the wares. I ended up buying a badass stained glass piece from a dude from Milwaukee. I have been looking for stained glass for my new house, and was super excited on this find. We also found two girls who made necklacks, rings, cuff links, and pins out of bottle caps. Like the bottle cap is the base. Then they have quirky pictures and seal it off with a nice translucent resin. Very well made. I purchased my familiar, a wicked witch of the west pin for my bag, Sam bought a weightlifter pin. The character had a handle bar mustache and was wearing the little speedo and boots. His was bedazzled, too! There was a lot of cool paintings and photos and crafts for sale. The paintings were out of my price range. Plus, I bought the painting from Brett, two from Bookmate, and then with my own prints of photos I have taken and the Mateo print I bought in Berlin, I'm kinda set on artwork. Like, I don't need some huge centerpiece painting.
After the art fare, Sam and I slept in the car in the parking lot, in the shade, with the AC on for about an hour, then I took him to the house to meet up with the others. They were leaving soon to play in Madison. I was on the fence if I was going to drive to Chicago. Made sense since I was already 165miles north, but Book was on a moto trip and I was pretty excited to just drive back home to STL. Got in at like 8pm last night and went straight to bed.
All said and done, and excellent weekend.
Here's a pic of Sam showcasing the stained glass piece that was purchased at the fair:
